How latitude shapes daylightWhy seasons change daylightAll cities
Every day, everyone gets the same five cities. Rank them from most to least hours of daylight today.
🟩 right spot = 2🟨 off by one = 1⬛ further = 0
Five cities, ten points. Day length is sunset minus sunrise on today’s date in each city’s local time. Neighbors in the answer always differ by at least 20 minutes.
Near the March and September equinoxes every city gets about 12 hours, so the question changes: rank by daylight gained since a week ago. Cities losing daylight have negative gains. Hint: change is fastest far from the equator, in opposite directions in each hemisphere.
Puzzles get harder through the week: Easy Monday–Tuesday, Medium Wednesday–Friday, Hard Saturday–Sunday. Harder days have closer calls and more cities where the season flips the obvious answer. In the weeks around an equinox, when all days are close to 12 hours, puzzles can come out harder than the weekday’s target; the badge always shows the real difficulty.
A new puzzle starts at midnight UTC, the same everywhere.
